Unitized Wheel Comparison Chart

When Should You Use A Unitized Wheel?
  • Unitized wheel is the "metal-eating" performer over convolute in stock removal tests.
  • Unitized wheels perform well under light to medium contact pressure, but do not do as well under high contact pressure.
  • Polishes, blends, and removes rough edges on metal well, as does convolute. However, it the tool has to be brought to the work piece, then unitized is the better choice.
  • Will withstand a radical dress (example: chisel point, convolute will not. Can be as thin as 1/8 in., but generally not thicker than 1 in.
  • Smaller than a 6 in. diamete

Silicon Carbide (S/C) vs. Aluminum Oxide (A/O)
  • Aluminum oxide is best for stock removal.
  • Silicon carbide is best for finishing applications.
